Ramen Shokudo's 3rd Year Anniversary

From 20 of January until 16 of February, Ramen Shokudo celebrates it's third year anniversary with lots of special promos. I'm just a new fan of their place and wasn't able to try all of their promos unfortunately but still I was able to try at least at least their last two week promos. On 20 of January, they kicked off with Free Appetizer. For any bowl or ramen, customers may choose from Gyoza or Curry cheese rolls for free. This is a good deal since the appetizers are usually around 149 php when you buy them separately. Their special promo usually lasts for a week since the following week will have a new set of promos. Second week of Shokudo's 3rd anniversary, they have the 50 pesos ramen. Yes you heard me, it's only 50 pesos. Mechanics would be first, you choose two  flavors from any of their available Ramens. Then pay for the regular price of the one higher in value. Lastly, pay only Php 50 for the second bowl. Cheap and sulit na guys right? The third week is the one that me and my love is waiting for... It's the BIG BOWL 😁😂😍... So when we found out about this, we immediately went to Ramen Shokudo to try it once again. Once again yes that's right, because we were able to try it last Aug of 2019. Here's the mechanics:

1. Can only choose from Toriton Shio, Toriton Shoyu, Toriton Miso, and Toriton Tantanmen
2. You can share, but this is limited to two people only (You and your companion)

Here are some of the archived photos that we had, last year...
This is the comparison of a regular bowl of ramen side by side with the BIG BOWL :)

This is the Toriton Shio (Salt based)
This is the Tan-tan men (This is spicy)
This is the camera shy hubby of mine enjoying his Tan-tan men. He told me to hide his face 😂
For this year's big bowl ramen event, we opted to order Toriton Shoyu (Soy sauce based), since we can share the big bowl I just ordered Katsudon and Gyoza.

This time, he tried Toriton Shoyu (Soy sauce based)
This is my Katsudon
Here's our Gyoza
Overall, since we already had a positive experience, coming to Shokudo is a breeze. We just had to have the right time to go back. Which is why their third anniversary special promo was just the right time. I really love the richness of the broth from their ramen and would love to try other variants as well...

Shokudo's last leg for the weekly special promo was the Unli Ramen, yes you heard me right! haha... So of course we want back and this time only Hubby ordered ramen (honestly speaking, I can't even finish a whole bowl 😜), I just want him to be happy because he is a Ramen monster and i'll know he's gonna be happy.

So here comes the last leg weekly promo for the unli ramen.... We want back on their last week of special promo, which features unlimited ramen 😍. Mechanics are: for the first bowl, you can choose from any of their available flavors as long as the minimum price is 380. For the succeeding bowls, choices are limited to Toriton Shio, Toriton Shoyu, Toriton Miso, and Toriton Tantanmen. You have to finish entirely your bowl before another is served. This can't be shared of course that's why I ordered Beef Gyudon and Cheese curry rolls which I found delicious too.

Here's the Brown Prawn Ramen

My Beef Gyu Don

Cheese curry rolls
Cheese curry rolls on another perspective 😍

To sum it all up. Our experience in Shokudo is great, we would be coming back :)

Shake Shack

So Shake Shack recently opened it's doors to the Philippines and obviously, there's a hype about it. Most people are patiently waiting in super duper queues just to take a try of new food. So as always, we usually wait for the hype to lay low. So then came a chance we bought movie tickets in Central Square and since we still have more than an hour to spare, we finally tried this burger joint. There was no line but the place is almost full. Luckily as soon as we're done ordering we were able to get a seat. Food waiting time is average, so a plus point. There is a self service station where you can get the condiments and all. So as soon as the food was served, we quickly dig in. We ordered Shackburger, Shake Stack, Cheese fries and Root beer float.

This is the Shack Stack Burger, Cheeseburger and a 'Shroom burger with lettuce and tomato adn ShackSauce (545 php)

Shack Stack burger with the Shack Burger
In all fairness, their burgers are really tasty and cheesy delicious indeed. But one thing we noticed, it's pretty small for the price. It is pricey and  I'm not sure if the burgers are small in US so for me it's a little okay but will definitely think twice in going back again. I have tried other local burger joints that is way better and bigger servings compared to this one. The total amount we've paid is almost at 1100 plus php and we were still hungry after. haha...

What's inside the Shack Stack burger? Oozing with melted cheese inside and yummyness of the portabello mushroom 💪

Nothing special at all, same regular fries (similar to S&R's french fries) but the cheese sauce does the job! This is yummy for me. The cheese is light, creamy and not too salty, compliments their burgers 😊 (180 php)

This is the Shackburger, cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and shacksauce. The patty is very tasty by the way...
 (Single 250php)

Overall, our Shake Shack Foodspotting experience is not that bad after all. Their food is indeed delicious. One thing that we hate so far would be the price though, it's really pricey! haha. And hmmm how their staff handles big crowd. We had a bad experience with their staff, they are too quick to clean up our table even while boyfie's not done yet. We got pissed because it seems that we were being singled out since our neighboring tables are done too but the staff aren't busting their tables. They were sooo annoying, they don't have to do that because there are still empty tables, and we were not done yet. Anyways so that's all for now.

Popeyes Arcovia City, Pasig

When I was still in college, Popeyes is already here in Manila, so it was not my first time trying their food. I studied in Katipunan area so I am near Robinsons Sta. Lucia branch so I can say that I ate at Popeyes almost on a regular basis since me and my friend are addicted to their famous biscuits. To bad they stopped operations and I am very excited that they were coming back. I waited for a little longer because the hype is still there and I don't want to be waiting in the long queues. So finally we went to Arcovia at around 11:30am and surprisingly there was no line at all outside, so we went inside and there were few people at the counter, but the whole place is full. The food waiting time is not that long maybe because we were early for lunch. We ordered two piece chicken with biscuit, three piece chicken tenders with rice, a creamy crab soup, mashed potato, cajun rice and a box of 3 assorted biscuits.

Overall I am very sad that their chicken is very ordinary, not even juicy compared before, mas masarap pa ang Chicken Joy eh. The biscuits which was my favorite before did not meet my expectations, it was hard and dense not like before. Mashed potato is a so so. Cajun rice is okay for me and good thing Crab soup was the only thing that saved the day. It was really good. It was really disappointing that my comparison from the old Popeyes is way beyond to the new one. I don’t know what happened. Even the staff are not fully aware of the free wifi, so no job knowledge at all, boyfie asked the cashier and was informed that there’s no free wifi but I am seeing one and I did asked another staff and was informed the same thing as well, but good thing I always check and keep receipts and lo and behold the password is in the receipt haha. For me the long wait and long queues is not worth it at all, In the future I will give it another try and try maybe their burgers and cajun fries and of course the crab soup but I will go there during off peak hours...

Here's their menu just in case you wanna try their food...

Lolo Nonoy's Food Station, Coron

We arrived early morning in our accommodation in Coron since we took a ferry from Manila. We were hungry and since we don't like to eat in our hotel and we wanted to explore the town already, we asked kuya guard to hail a tricycle and he gladly got one for us. We said to kuya guard we wanted to eat "sa mura lang" (cheap only) and he just instructed the driver to "murang restaurant" (cheap restaurant).

Good thing the driver is kind enough to drive is to Lolo Nonoy's. At first it seemed like a simple eatery and not that busy since it was around 8am when we got there. We were greeted by the staff and handed out the menu. The price is reasonable enough not that very cheap and not the pricey. There are cooked viands available as well if you are very hungry and not willing to wait. We ordered Dinuguan and Papaitan and true enough we only paid 355 (plus 2 rice and 1 soda). We saw the nearby table ordering Calamares and we craved so we planned to get back ahaha.

On our second night since we don't have dinner included in our tour we decided to came back and true enough it is quite very busy during dinner time. We were patient enough and luckily we didn't waited long for a staff to took our order. We were craving for the Calamares and the chili crab because we went first on Lobster King at it was sooo expensive and it seems that we were being robbed, we asked for Calamares and the waiter said 650 per kilo plus the cooking. So it was the best idea to go back to Lolo nonoy's, the serving is good for 2 for both calamares and the chili crab. Chili crab is only 500php and Calamares is only 300. You can ask the Chili crab to be not too spicy if you dont eat spicy food. The food is so succulent and the price is not bad.

On our last day in Coron (tears running down on my cheek since I don't want to leave hahaha), we also had our early lunch before our flight where else, still in Lolo Nonoy's. We ordered Sinigang na Salmon and Pork Sisig.

The food didn't fail and we were very happy to learn about this place. We were sooo full since we ordered extra rice no diet for now haha. We were soo grateful to kuya guard and kuya tricycle driver to introducing us to Lolo Nonoy's.

Ying Ying Tea House

Me and my partner is always adventurous when it comes to food. We really love to try new things, especially if it's about food, those that are the most "hyped" or talked about. We even joined a popular FB group that showcases the most talked about new or old restaurants, or food places to go to. We all knew that Binondo is one of the best places to go especially if you're here in Manila. We always knew that this is one of the Foodie haven that everyone should try as well. Our trip was totally unplanned, we went for a tire shopping and we got hungry and since we're already in Manila, we decided to finally try what's the fuss with Binondo food trip. Our original destination (another popular resto) is already closed since it's past lunch time (this is common for chinese restos btw), good thing the security guard advised us to go to Ying Ying since it's always open even after lunch time and he pointed that Ying ying's food is delicious and cheap too. We went right away to Yuchengco St. where Ying Ying is located and lo and behold, the line is still full outside haha. We have this notion for restos with long queue and fully occupied restaurant that the food is definitely good (I think it's quite obvious, but hey would you eat with an empty restaurant right? hehe). So we waited for our turn to be called and luckily we didn't wait too long, because the only issue for me is the outside ambiance is quite unpleasing, all who ate here would understand what I mean. So the next thing we knew we were already seated upstairs. We ordered Yang chow, sweet and sour pork, and cold cuts since we saw it from a nearby table. haha. Yang chow is more than for two and sweet and sour pork is good too, the highlight for us would be the cold cuts, this is way too cheap than the cold cuts from Northpark but the quality is almost the same or even better :)

Yang Chow, soo good... sooo dami :)

Sweet and Sour pork

Cold Cuts - mixed of duck, chicken, asado, lechon kawali, mushrooms and the humble century egg (my favorite)

We also tried almond sago and their milk tea and mind you guys, this is way too better than the hyped milk tea shops here in Manila, it is beyond comparison...
Milk tea and Almond Sago
The food is sooo good we went back again recently and tried the beef with broccoli, it was good too and we ordered again the cold cuts because we can't get enough, hahaha.

I am going hungry and craving for Ying ying again as I type this review. Will be coming back again soon :)

Mila's tokwa't Baboy and Sisig, Angeles City

If you're traveling from up north, don't forget to drop by for a hearty lunch at Mila's tokwa't baboy in Angeles City, Pampanga. Mila's tokwa's baboy was introduced to me by my brother who were based in Clark way back I think around two years ago. Whenever we have family summer outing up north, before heading back to Manila, we always find time to visit this humble place. Last two years, the set up of their indoor and outdoor seating has an ambiance of a casual non-intimidating go to place, with plenty of  plastic monobloc chairs and tables. It gets too crowded during busy hours but it's okay and super worth it. Recently their place have improvements like air-conditioned dining area, ample parking lot, and clean restrooms. It's always the usual order whenever we go to this place, two orders of their famous sisig, two orders of tokwa't baboy, and of course my favorite, the paco salad.

This is probably the most sought after here in Mila's, and this would not disappoint at all. ☺

Another crowd's favorite would be this tokwa't baboy. This is not your usual tokwa't baboy guys! The tokwa (tofu) is sooo crispy, with succulent pig ears (for the baboy) and topped with celery and their home made soy sauce.

Lastly, to balance out the goodness of their food, we always order atleast two to three plates of my all time favorite Paco (salad). They said that this would lessen the guilt of too much eating of pork haha. I can't help but agree hehehe 😋.

Paco salad is made of fresh ferns with salted egg, onions, and tomatoes. Don't forget to dip it with their yummy Pinakurat dip (spiced vinegar, ohhh this is sooo yummy! 😰)

Snackaroo, Quezon City

We've been hearing good reviews ever since about Snackaroo but we never tried their steak until last Saturday, February 10th of 2018. There was a time before the month February that we wanted to try eating at Snackaroo but it was a busy Sunday and packed with too many people inside since it was lunch time. The place is too crowded and we were starving and decided to eat somewhere and try it next time. We were really craving for the t-bone steak last 10th of February, since it was already late lunch, about almost afternoon, luckily, the place was not crowded and we were able to get a good parking spot too so I said to myself, "this is it, we're finally able to try their steak".

We got to choose the best seat since it was not crowded and we were greeted right away by their friendly staff. They handed over their simple menu, which I liked best in restos since it's not like a bible menu and isn't complicated too.

So of course, we opted for two t-bone steak, and three cups of rice, since we usually share the third rice (haha!). It only took few minutes (less than 7 to 10 minutes if I'm not mistaken) for the waiting time and the staff gave us two huge t-bone steak! It was sooooo worth the price, imagine for only 175 php you get around 250 to 280 grams of scrumptious meat.

We were so busy munching our slice of steak so we weren't able to take more photos of it. They don't have fancy side dishes like mashed potatoes and other dish that may complement the steak, just a cup of plain rice and the gravy on the side (which tastes great too!) but it doesn't matter at all because the meat is so tender and it was cooked right into perfection, you don't have to look for other food anymore :)

Here's my t-bone steak...

Here's their menu as of this date...

If you're craving for cheap eats and a slice of affordable steak, I suggest you to give it a try 😁. Don't expect too much because the place it not fancy at all, the ambiance is just like an ordinary carinderia with no a/c so wear comfy clothes, but hey who are we to complain? It's their delicious cheap steak that matters right?! Will I come back? Definitely 😉.

Oyster Boy, Metrowalk

It's the second weekend of January 2018, me and beau are just spending our weekend at home and suddenly we craved for seafood. 🤗 We decided to go to Oyster Boy at Metrowalk to satisfy our cravings.

We came around 7pm, right time for dinner and we were very excited since it's been a year or two since we last ate at Oyster Boy. We were greeted right away by their friendly staff and have us seated. We scanned right away the menu, they still have our favorite which is the Halaan (Clams) in seafood broth so of course we ordered it right away ☺. We also ordered 12 pieces of Rockefeller oysters, sinuglaw, tuna belly, and aligue rice.

We were told that order will take 15 to 20 minutes to prepare and while we were waiting, they gave us a plate of complementary Kropek to munch on and we we're happy and didn't mind waiting for the food 😘.

First of our order came and we were both ecstatic to sip the scrumptious seafood broth and of course the oh so yummy clams.

Greenwich's overloaded supreme meal - my comfort food =)

Been a fan of Greenwich's overloaded supreme meal number one eversince and I must say this is really worth it to be included a special place not only in my tummy but also here in my blog 😁. It's week two of work week for the year 2018, since I'm still not very busy at work I promised myself to eat out and have a fulfilling dinner since I almost eat everyday in our pantry recently to save some money and I'm lazy to go out honestly hahaha... 😂

I really really love Greenwich's lasagna paired with wacky wings and of course a solo pizza. This is what I always order if I dine at their Bonifacio Stop over branch. Overloaded supreme meal one includes: One Solo Hawaiian pizza, one snack size lasagna, two wacky wings and one regular softdrinks. Their lasagna tastes good, imagine for a cheap price you're getting a yummy, cheesy and gooey lasagna. I can still imagine how it tastes just as I'm describing it now hahaha...

Supreme meal 1 costs 205 php

I always add the cheesy bread sticks on the side since the meal don't include bread sticks. The dip for the cheesy bread sticks is to die for 😊, I used it to dip my pizza and the taste is so satisfying 😅. Try it and I'm sure you'll love it too...
This is only 39 php if it's an add on for a meal.

I'll be back again at Greenwich maybe after a week or two and planning to try their new addition which is the Creamy Carbonara, I'll keep you posted if it is worth a shot. 😤

Yvan Navy Mandaluyong

We used to go here at least once every two weeks when Yvan Navy opened their Barangka drive Mandaluyong branch last May 2016. Yvan Navy has always been recommended to us but we haven't have time to visit since there's no branch near where we live. We've been hearing good reviews prior to the opening of the said branch from our colleagues about the cheap but great burger and their kebab so we were excited that they finally have a branch in Mandaluyong and their location is only like two blocks away from our home. After a few months of not visiting their Mandaluyong branch anymore due to busy schedule, last week we were craving for their yummy burgers and kebab rice so we paid them a visit.

It was already late, it's almost midnight, there are only two or three (groups) tables occupied and they are almost done eating. The place is not crowded unlike before or maybe because it is in the middle of the week I guess, we ordered right away since we know that it will took several minutes for our orders to be prepared but since there were just two new additional customers, me with my beau and another family with three adults and 2 kids I expected a little that it will be much faster than the usual.

So we sat down after placing our order, Yvan Navy is so affordable we only paid around 200 plus for four our orders: Quarter pounder, cheese quesadilla, shawarma rice, and the epic carbonarra.

I hate to say this but our last week's visit, we were quite disappointed for the following reasons:

(1) First, we waited for 40 mins or so, almost an hour for our orders, considering that they only need to process only two batches of customers which I mentioned earlier (me with beau and another family with three adults and 2 kids). As soon as the orders were served we immediately dig in. We were waiting for it for almost an hour so we were already starving. I ordered the Shawarma rice and the cheese quesadilla on the side and to be shared with my beau. He had the quarter pounder and the carbonarra.

(2) The quarter pounder is way too smaller compared to what we're having before. I'm not sure if they mixed up the order because the other table seems have bigger burgers than what we got, I overheard that they order the quarter pounder too. Beau said it tastes okay so we didn't bother having it replaced, or else we might wait for another forty minutes haha.
This is the quarter pounder, it seems that it is smaller compared to what we were getting before but in all fairness it still taste good to think that you're just paying for it for only 60 pesos.

(3) The cheese quasadilla is very cheap compared to other popular restaurants but however the tortillas were over burnt seems that they were rushing but again it took 40 minutes so again we didn't complain.
Cheese Quesadilla for only 50 pesos, this one's a little overburnt that you can actually taste the burnt tortilla, sadly, it was not like this before.
(3) Shawarma rice was okay, but the meat is a little overcooked and the sauce seems weird, it's cold. Yes cold as if it was from a fridge then smothered on the meat. I'm not sure if it is suppose to be like this. Will not complain though, weirdly, it tastes okay or is it because I'm starving? :)
Shawarma rice, for only 50 pesos. This one's new I think since I haven't seen this way back when they opened last year. So for curiosity's sake I tried it.

(4) Lastly, this would be the reason why I'm writing this blog about Yvan Navy. I'm pretty sure the pasta should be not served cold. As soon as beau started tasting the carbonarra, his face became awkward. I asked him how was the pasta, he said to me "taste it", I was surprised, it is cold. Is it the sauce? Is it the pasta? Unfortunately both. The sauce tastes okay but why on earth would they serve cold pasta? Beau suddenly stood up, went to the cashier and brought his plate. I waited patiently and he returned with the money we paid for the pasta. He said, he was asking the staff if they have microwave oven to please reheat the pasta since it was cold (the plate itself is cold too haha). The three of them were stunned and didn't answer right away, another staff who is sitting nearby the counter said that they don't have a microwave oven since the last one broke. They were looking at the back maybe looking for the cook on how to fix it up but there was no answer on the kitchen, we're not sure why. Another staff suggested to change the item meaning we will have to wait again so beau didn't accept the offer. He just want to atleast reheat the food but unfortunately it's a no go. Good thing the lady on the cashier offered him to just refund the payment and so beau accepted it. So he ended up not fully satisfied with what we ate.

I'm sorry to say but this was so disappointing. Sadly, the carbonarra was served cold liked it came right from the fridge.

I'm not sure if we will be going back again in this place, or maybe we can still try but it may took a long time because of the mishaps and unfortunately they were not even apologetic about it. Why would we have to wait for so long and not getting decent cooked (and hot) food. We hope that this will be an isolated case and the other branch would be not like this.

(Bonus) We also noticed that the tables and chairs have dusts everywhere. It seems that haven't wiped the dining tables and chairs for a long time. Good thing I am not wearing light colored shirt and shorts or else I'm gonna end up cleaning the dusts involuntarily.

Jollibee Strawberry Tea float and Strawberry fries

My curiosity led me to try Jollibee's new Strawberry Tea float and Strawberry fries. Yes you heard it right, strawberry flavored french fries, kinda weird right and exciting too. I love strawberries so why not give it a try.

I saw several post from my Facebook friends mentioning or posting photos of the strawberry flavored fries. I checked Jollibee's official Facebook page and there it goes, not only they have strawberry flavored fries, they also have Strawberry tea float.
Screenshot from Jollibee's Facebook Page. Totoo nga besh hehe... It started last week, October 30 and they said this is a limited time offer so hurry and try it :)

So last weekend, I woke up late it's almost midnight and I am so starving (I slept whole Saturday since I am deprived of sleep the past few weeks, I deserved a whole day of sleep right?). I remembered the Facebook posts and I really missed Chicken Joy and really really got curios to try the new fries and float. I immediately ask my beau to go for a spin to the nearest 24 hours Jollibee in our area.

I ordered one piece chicken with rice and upgraded the fries included in the meal for a strawberry flavored one. Then for the softdrinks, I added additional fee to upgrade it for a strawberry tea float.

I ate the chicken joy and the strawberry fries on the side, took a sip every now and then on the Strawberry float which turns out to be so yummy! Here are the photos of the two new flavors you can try.
I just ordered the regular size just as to make sure since this will be my first time eating the strawberry flavor, I just want to make sure that I can ate all of it in case I don't find it okay. Just avoiding food spoilage folks :)

Here's the yummy Strawberry tea float.

I usually scoop out first the sundae before digging in to the drink itself hehe :)

As for the verdict, I super duper liked the Strawberry Tea Float. The taste go well with the tea and the sundae, I would definitely order this again. Bagay na bagay sya sa chicken joy, it's tangy and sweet so if I come to Jollibee again and this one's still available, for sure I'll order it. Great with the normal fries too. I'm into dipping fries on my float so this one's for the win! For the Strawberry fries, it is okay, beau find it weird and just ate few pieces so I end up eating all of it. He's more busy with his own order of chicken joy with palabok which is his all time favorite in Jollibee. The fries were cooked fine, the strawberry powder added a zing to it, but little by little, I'm getting the weird tangy aftertaste, for me it would be better if the strawberry powder is not too much but just like a hint of strawberry only, because the powdered flavor is so strong. I am satisfied with my cravings but I think the one's better for me is the tea float, for the fries, I might order it again but will ask them not the over-pour the strawberry powder on it. If they will allow it.

Fellow foodies, give it a try and tell me what you think. Go now to the nearest Jollibee in your area since this is for a limited time only.
